Karen Barrett

Karen Barrett is a self-taught artist who has enjoyed living and working within the rural beauty and drama of the Scottish Borders since 1990.

She works mainly in acrylic paint, with touches of gold leaf and mixed media on mounted board, producing work to reflect an appreciation of the natural environment; particularly trees, woodland, and simple rural cottages.

Inspiration is often found in the peaceful day to day interaction between nature and people during trips to the Scottish Highland, or to local woodland, river paths and villages.  Through the simplification of natural form, dotted with representations of domestic rural security, Karen hopes to convey a feeling of joy, well-being and contentment, and perhaps provide a small antidote to the often seemingly chaotic situations surrounding our world.
