Lesley married Norman Stuart Clarke (one of Britains’ leading glass artists) in 1999. Although Norman’s influence is apparent in her work, Lesley is completely self-taught with no formal training. She was born in St Ives and the ‘Cornish Seas’ reflects both the colour and power of the sea and coastline of Cornwall. Lesley says “Over the years many artists have come to live and work in St Ives for its light and wondrous views.” Her work with blown glass makes full use of the light and the flowing nature of hot glass.
Lesley uses two coloured glasses in powdered form. Blue and white glass is rolled into the hot crystal and the oxides on the coloured glass react to give ochres. The colours mix and swirl and give the impressions of the landscape and seascape within the glass itself shaped to reflect movement.
