“I love colour and pattern!!!
My mixed media still life paintings feature “treasures” – textile samples, china, old bottles……… collected over the years. Fruit and flowers are placed with these to give freshness to the groupings. These arrangements are looked on from an aerial perspective. The importance of the fabrics and their construction within the paintings reflect my past in textile design. The aerial view allows the shapes to be flattened and refined and traditional subject matter takes on a quirky, more contemporary feel.
I obtained an honours degree in Industrial Design (specialising in woven textiles) from the Scottish College of Textiles (now part of Heroit Watt University) and then worked in the textile industry for 14 years. Working from home, Galashiels in the Scottish borders, I have concentrated on painting for the last decade, building my profile with pieces exhibited in group exhibitions across the UK. My “studio” is really just a desk around which are some very busy shelves. I have to make a real effort to find my desk from among all the treasures so I can get any work done!!”
